Urban Passport is a city-rally app in which your Berlin scavenger hunt is yours to design: you pick the stops in the Host Portal — the courtyard off Oranienstrasse, the bridge everyone walks over without looking, the bar where the group ends up anyway — and you write the question that belongs to each one. Building the route is free, the app is a free download, and a whole round fits inside a single neighbourhood. On the day you share one game code and the group joins as guests, without an account per person; one phone per team is enough. Each team answers standing at the place and stamps the spot by GPS, confirmed within a radius of 18 to 75 metres, so nobody scores from the sofa. Every team's score runs live against a time limit you set. Unlike a printed puzzle kit, this route belongs to your group and nobody has played it before.

How do I build a Berlin route step by step?
You do the building in the browser, on a computer, with nothing to install. Place your Berlin stops on the map in walking order, write a question and answers for each one, set the time limit and create the game. Five to six stops inside one neighbourhood make roughly 60 to 75 minutes on foot: a courtyard, a canal bridge, a corner shop with a story behind it. Because you wrote the questions, the round exists for your group alone — and you already know the answers, which makes you the one person who cannot play.

How does the app know we are actually at the place?
On site, GPS confirms that a team is really standing there. The radius is set per spot and lies between 18 and 75 metres. Only then does the stamp appear, and only then does it count towards the score. That holds for spots you built yourself too: you set the place, and the app checks it — which is what separates this from a paper hunt or a check-in app.

What does a scavenger hunt in Berlin cost?
Building costs nothing: the Host Portal, your own spots and your own questions are free, and so is the app download. What is paid for is the game, by size: Friends Game – up to 6 devices for 14,99 €, Private Game – up to 10 for 49,99 €, Class Game – up to 35 for 399 € and Large Group Game – up to 100 for 699 €. There is no per-person ticket and no guide fee on top.

Frequently asked questions about a scavenger hunt in Berlin
Which places in Berlin can we use?
Any place a team can stand at. You drop the pin yourself, so a route can run through one Kreuzberg block, along the Landwehrkanal or across half the city. Most groups use somewhere between five and ten stops.
How long does building a route take?
For five to six stops, expect around 30 minutes once you know the portal: place the stops on the map in walking order, write one question per stop, set the time limit. Building is free and can be done days in advance.
How many people can play?
Friends Game – up to 6 devices covers a small group, and a device shared by two people counts once. Above that the sizes are Private Game – up to 10, Class Game – up to 35 and Large Group Game – up to 100 participants.
Does it work for a company team event?
Yes. Colleagues play in small teams with the score running live as a competition, and the round needs no trainer and no booking in advance. For groups above 20 people, the group games page covers the larger sizes.
Do we need a guide?
No. The app shows the way, checks by GPS that a team is at the place and counts the points, so nobody has to lead the group or keep score on paper.
What is the difference to a classic city tour?
A city tour is walked at one speed behind one person. Here the teams move on their own, answer questions that only work at the place itself, and compete against a time limit you set.
