What is there to do in Hamburg?
Urban Passport turns Hamburg into eleven themed collections, each one a short walk of three to eleven spots. You pick a lens — street art, Beatles history, markets, brick architecture, parks, the darker chapters — and every place in it arrives as a card with one question you can answer from home before you fly. On site you get a bearing and a distance instead of a route line, because finding the place is part of the game. Stand within 75 metres and the card turns into a stamp that stays in your passport permanently. Complete a set and it earns a holographic category seal. Hamburg is the launch city, live on the App Store since 24 July 2026, and the collections keep growing as new places are verified on the ground.
This is not a guided tour, not an audio guide and not a check-in app: the phone has to be physically at the place, and nothing can be stamped from a hotel room.

How does the game actually work?
In three steps, and the whole loop fits into 20 seconds of explanation. First you study: pick a spot and answer one short question from home — right or wrong, the story sticks and you keep a study card. Then you walk: there is no turn-by-turn route line, only a bearing and a distance such as "240 m · north-east", because finding the place is half the game. Then you stamp: within 75 metres the card unlocks and lands in your passport permanently.
Which collection should a first-time visitor start with?
Architecture if you have one day — 11 spots, two UNESCO World Heritage sites, roughly 3 hours from the Chilehaus to the Elbphilharmonie Plaza. Beatles and music history if you came for the Star-Club at Große Freiheit 39, which opened on 13 April 1962. Markets if it is a Tuesday or Friday morning, because the Isemarkt runs under a viaduct built between 1907 and 1912.
Can a school class, a hostel or a company group play together?
Yes. A host builds the route in the group portal, picks the stops, adds their own questions and starts teams with a six-digit join code; guests join without accounts, and the host sees every team's progress live. Store products are Friends Game – up to 6 devices (€14.99), Private Game – up to 10 (€49.99), Class Game – up to 35 (€399) and Large Group Game – up to 100 (€699). Building and preparing a route costs nothing.
Is my location tracked?
Only in the moment of stamping. Friends see what you collect, never where you are, and there is no continuous background tracking — the position check runs while you are actively exploring, and nothing about your route is stored on a server. A German version of this page is at /de/staedte/hamburg/.
